First Aid for those Caring for Children

Course Aims

This qualification aims to provide first aid knowledge and skills relevant for those caring for babies and young children under the age of 8.

Who should attend

Parents and workers caring for children in pre-schools, nurseries, crèches, schools, voluntary organisations and for childminders and babysitters. It is also suitable for those wishing to seek employment in the childcare sector or who are studying other full time childcare programmes.

Course Content

  • First Aid including initial assessment procedure for emergency situations
  • Assessing the airway and breathing status of an unresponsive baby/child
  • CPR for baby/child
  • The procedures for the choking of a baby and child
  • Bleeding
  • Shock and electric shock
  • Recognise and deal with the dangers with first aid emergencies
  • The risk of infection to self and others when administering first aid
  • Correct use of protective aids
  • The correct procedure for cleaning up and disposing of body fluid

Qualification

EDI Level 2 Certificate in First Aid for those caring for children.

Assessment

Practical assessments supported by witness statements and multiple choice question paper.
