Level 2 Cert in Health & Safety in the Workplace

Course Aims

To cover relevant health and safety legislation and specific safety issues that arise in the individual learners' workplaces and to provide a preventative approach to hazards, promoting a 'safe practice' culture.

Who should attend

Those engaged in general work activities who do not have specific responsibility for health and safety issues. It can be studied by individuals or form the basis of in-house safety training programmes and is designed for study either in the workplace or by distance learning.
This flexibility of delivery modes can minimise time required to be spent away from the workplace.
Progression:
This certificate is designed as a general introduction to safety regulations and practices for employed people. It is not, therefore, intended as a direct route into any other qualification, appropriate further programmes are:
NVQ Level 2: Occupational Health and Safety, Radiation Protection Support
NVQ Level 3: Occupational Health and Safety Practice
NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health

Course Content

  • To complete 8 units – 2 core and 6 optional units
  • Core Units:
  • Introduction to the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Hazards, Risks and Risk Assessments
  • Optional Units:-
  • Manual handling (People)
  • Manual handling (Objects)
  • Electricity at work
  • Using the COSHH regulations
  • The health and safety aspects of using display screen equipment
  • Fire safety in the workplace
  • Using PUWER in the workplace
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE) in the workplace
  • Using LOLER in the workplace
  • Health and safety training in the workplace
  • The provision of first aid in the workplace

Qualification

EDI Level 2 Certificate in Health & Safety in the Workplace

Assessment

Learners are required to pass the two core units and at least six of the optional units.
Units 1 and 2 are assessed externally through multiple choice question tests that are set, marked and moderated by EDI.
Units 3 to 13 are internally set and marked by the learning provider and moderated through the EDI Quality Audit procedures
